After my 9-month stint in Val-d'Or and my 3-week vacation in the Philippines, I'm relieved to say I'm finally home sweet home, and what better way to celebrate than with a burger? In late June, when I finally got to settle in a little bit, me and my friend Kami went to The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro in Pickering. We have been talking about going on a little burger adventure for quite some time, and I couldn't think of any better place than one of the newest burger joint in Kami's hometown.

The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro has been around for quite some time—since 2001—with over twenty locations from across the GTA to Ottawa, to Barrie and beyond. One of the more recent locations that opened up was in Pickering, and since a lot of my family and friends (yes, Kami, you, too) live close to that location, I've been hearing recommendation after recommendation for this burger joint. The Works has been on my list for quite some time, and now that I have finally returned back to our lovely province of Ontario, I have decided to try this place out once and for all! You know me, I'm a sucker for themed restaurants... so right off the bat, The Works won some points for me. This industrial-looking interior is chock full of quirky things, like lightbulb-shaped salt and pepper shakers to measuring cup drinking glasses to boldly funny washroom signs (you've really got to see for yourself)... the attention to detail is amazing. The burger I ordered, The Million Dollar KD Burger, was quite tasty. I know I've mentioned in the past that I wasn't really big on cheese, but I think I'm actually starting to warm up to it a little bit. I know, I know... I didn't order a classic, plain or signature burger this time, and that's simply because The Works doesn't actually have one signature burger. Instead, I opted for one of their "Born to Be Wild" burgers, because to be honest, there were just way too many burgers on their menu... I didn't even know where to start! But don't get me wrong, this burger was delicious... I just wish it had a different texture to it. The patty was juicy, the bun was soft, and the KD was smooth... now if only there was something else in the burger to add a little more crunch to it, then that definitely would've brought this burger to the next level. The Works is the place for any adventurous burger aficionado who wants to try something more than just that typical burger. There's most definitely a wide range of options for carnivores and herbivores alike. To top that all off, the staff at the Pickering location are amazingly friendly and welcoming. I would definitely suggest a walk-in if ever you're around any Works location near you. 4 stiletto goodness! Keep up the great work!
