Earlier this year, my friend Candice suggested that I go on a burger date with her. My obvious answer was yes (DUH!!!), but there was one catch... she's a vegetarian! Now, up until this point, except for when McDonald's first introduced veggie burgers on their menu AGES ago (which I tried and was traumatized ever since), I have never had a real veggie burger, and needless to say, I was a bit iffy about it. But she mentioned a little place called Fresh in Toronto, and sooner than later, we set up a date at the Spadina location! Another one of my friends had also recommended that I try the burgers there, and since I'm always down for something new, I figured that a meatless burger won't kill me! Bring it on!!!

Oh how I miss my dip-dyed hair ;,,,,,,(

Oh haaaay Candice

Inside looking out

Too bad I don't drink water!

Vegan Burger Virgin... I must admit, I was a little apprehensive

Candice contemplating Fresh's extensive menu

Upon much deliberation, I opted for the BBQ burger: tangy bbq sauce, quinoa onion rings, garlic mayo, napa cabbage, tomato & lettuce... the original lineup for this burger includes hot banana chilies, but since I'm such a baby, I omitted them

I'm ready!!!

My almost unrecognizeable burger, after I flattened it so it could actually be consumed... and ultimately, devoured!

(Insert blurry scenic break, lol)

Candice and her yummy burger (yes, I tried it!)

She got the Thai Burger: thai peanut sauce, tomato, lettuce, green onions, bean sprouts & cilantro. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries to share!

Okay so, how was my first real veggie burger??!!?! Not only did I survive to tell my story, but I very well enjoyed it! The house-made vegan burger was so well crafted and so well textured, that I almost (I said ALMOST) did not miss the meat in my burger. The downfall to this vegan patty, though, is that near the end stages of eating the burger, the patty tends to fall apart... what a shame. The bun, on the other hand, although whole wheat, was not dry and was pretty soft... just how I like it! I also enjoyed the creativity of flavours on the menu, because it goes to show that vegans do have options... and very tasty ones at that! We even indulged in fruit smoothies: I ordered the Cherry Blossom (cherry, apple, raspberry, banana) and Candice ordered the Negril Beach (coconut milk, mango, banana) and they, too, were delicious! The only thing, though, that I have learned from eating at Fresh is that kale is just not for me, haha, hence why we ordered a side of sweet potato fries. I did also enjoy the ecclectic decor of the restaurant, as well as the laid back, but yet not lazy, service. And I must also mention that the prices aren't so bad, neither. Fresh is a well-rounded restaurant with options for the vegetarians and vegans out there who want to spoil themselves with a burger once in a while. For amazing food, great service and an over all awesome experience, I give Fresh 4 stilettos!
